At Pinto Pools, we start every project with a state of the art cad program to design your swimming pool & spa. We can easily change the shape, size, location, etc to your specific needs. A freeform swimming pool has endless possibilities to suit your needs. Pinto Pools can also alter classic shapes such as rectangles, grecian & kidney pools to give them an updated look. With the addition of a raised or flush spa, waterfall, beach step or entry, sun shelfs, Jandy sheerdescents, bar stools, under water tables, quartz exposed aggregate finish or many other features, we can build your dream pool the way you want it.
The building process starts out with a simple layout in lime or a garden hose that will show you the shape, size and location of your swimming pool prior to excavation. Sometimes the pool will change location, shape, or size due to underground obstacles such as ledge, piping etc. This layout is also shown on your plot plan which is used to obtain a building permit.
If Ledge removal is needed, we will bring in the appropriate machinery required to eliminate the obstacle, In some cases we can alter the location, shape or size of the pool, eliminating the need for ledge removal. Some ledge can be removed with a liquid splitting agent, eliminating the need of heavy machinery. We are unable to determine if your proposed pool site has ledge or not. A good indication would be if you have pieces of stone sticking out of your property in certain areas.
The excavation stage follows the customers approval of the pool site. Most pool excavation is done within a day depending on access, ground situation, ledge, etc. An excavator is usually brought in to dig the pool and or spa. The excavation is done within wood layout thet defines the shape and size of the pool. These wood forms are set at the pool elevation minus the coping, giving the excavator a point of measure for the pool depths.
Steel reinforcing rods are next. Pinto Pools uses 1/2 rebar normally in the steel phase of pool construction. The steel is bonded by a licensed electrician, along with any light niches, and other metal pieces surrounding the perimeter of the swimming pool. This bond wire is run to the filter equipment. An inspection from the town is then called in prior to the concrete installation.
The concrete is installed next which is pneumatically applied throuh a hose and shot through a nozzle and having the approprate name of shotcrete. There are 2 different types of shotcrete, The first being shotcrete dry often mistakenly called gunite. This process is where the concrete is mixed onsite in a specially designed truck. The other type of concrete installation is shotcrete wet. This process is where the concrete is mixed at a plant and then transported to the jobste and pumped through a hose and nozzle. Pinto pools uses the shotcrete wet process.
While the concrete is curing, the tile and coping is installed. Most pools use 2" thick bluestone or a square & rec granite coping on rectangle pools and granite veneer, cantilever, or other natural stone set in concrete or stonedust for freeform or any pools with a radius. Natural looking pools are the most common pools built by us which consist of a natural looking gray porcelin tile, a granite or bluestone coping, and a french gray Diamond Brite finish. Although we build all types of pools including classic, natural, and modern swimming pools & spas.
Once the tile and coping are completed, the pool is given an acid wash to prepare for the finish. There are many types of pool finishes today. Pinto Pools recommends Diamond Brite exposed aggregate finishes, Plaster finishes in white only, and Pebble finishes. The pool finish is a personal preference of the homeowner, each has its pros and cons. The Pool finish is hand troweled over the entire surface of the pool at about 1/4″ thick.
After a few hours of the pool finish drying, water trucks are called in to quickly fill the pool. The process of the plaster and pool filling are done on the same day and take approximately 9 hours. We recommend brushing of the pool finish regularly for at least 2 weeks. This will create a much smoother surface for you and your family to Enjoy. The work on the surrounding pool decking and landscaping usually begin at this point.
